Being a volunteer is a great way to be a part of a loving community that cares for its injured, neglected, and abused animals who cannot care for themselves. For most positions, volunteers do not have to have any specialized skills other than a love of animals.

We would love to have your help.

The Sanctuary has many volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, we need you to read over our Volunteer Guidelines (see below),  Please complete the Volunteer Application  & mail a hard copy to:

Sara’s Sanctuary
P.O. Box 147
Redmond, WA 98073

After we receive your application, a volunteer coordinator will email you to set up phone interview.
** Volunteer Guidelines**

The following list of rules has been adopted by Sara's Sanctuary for the health and well-being of our residents and the volunteers whose help we couldn't operate without.

·     Volunteers must 18 years of age.

·     The volunteer program is a 6-month commitment, and minimum of three hours, one day per week.

·     Volunteers working at the Sanctuary must arrive unaccompanied for their shift. Although we would love to accommodate friends, and family, the Sanctuary is a place for the animals that call it home, and the dedicated volunteers who care for them.  Although we all love children, for their safety, and the safety of the animals we must insist that all volunteers are at least 18 years old.  We appreciate your understanding as we cannot make exceptions.
·     Sara's Sanctuary is a drug-free, smoke-free Sanctuary. There is NO smoking on the Sanctuary grounds.

·     Volunteers must be reliable, and be at the Sanctuary on time for shift they have committed to. The animals’ well-being depends on the diligent cleaning, careful feeding, and appropriate interaction of their volunteer.

Here are the volunteer positions we are currently looking for:

The following positions require the regular three hour/1 day a week commitment.
**HIGH NEED volunteer positions**
Volunteers needed in the indoor and outdoor aviaries (home to many exotic birds). The large bird aviary requires experienced bird handlers only.  The small bird aviary does not require previous bird handling experience; however a love of birds is a must. Training is required for this position.

·     Direct Animal care- this position does involve direct care and feeding of the animals.  Many of the animals residing at Sara’s Sanctuary have endured either neglect or injury during their lifetime, and trust is a big issue for these animals. Because of this, we ask that all animal care volunteers make a 6-month commitment to the Sanctuary. It takes time for the animals to adjust to new people who they must depend on for their care and feeding. The Sanctuary animals need care 365 days a year – including wet, cold, miserable days, rain or shine. If you are not use to getting COLD & DIRTY, please think carefully before you make the commitment to this part of volunteering. Also, it is critical that all the animals receive the correct diet and the Sanctuary holds a strict policy of good hygiene to ensure the health of its animals.  So a 6 week training program with a volunteer mentor is required to prepare volunteers to properly care for the special needs of many of the animals, and receive instruction on important safeguards.  Typically the tasks include providing specific food and water to the animals, and cleaning out enclosures.  Volunteers are needed to care for livestock (llamas, alpacas, goats, sheep, miniature horse, donkey, pot bellied pigs, emus, poultry, and waterfowl as well as other barn animals).
